Eugenija Bieliauskaitė, the coordinator  of the event and the founder of the Museum of Rocks and Minerals, told the participants how the museum was founded. In  autumn 2013,  the American Professional Partnership for Lithuanian Education (A.P.P.L.E) organized a Fund contest. In order to get funding all submitted projects  had to be creative and innovative and  involve students, teachers, parents and all the community. These projects had to be associated with the main topic, “How to Apply  Theoretical Knowledge to Real Life situations“. Eugenija Bieliauskaitė prepared a project, “The Museum of Rocks and Minerals“ and got funding. Cooperation agreements were signed with the Museum of Geology of Vilnius University, with  the firm of Arūnas Kleišmantas “Two Sapphires“,  with the Geological museum of Lithuania, with the Institute of Geology and Geography of Nature Research Centre. The Project funding, the support of the school head and all school community let Eugenija Bieliauskaitė to equip and found a museum within a short period of time(2.5 months). The Museum of Rocks and Minerals holds minerals, rocks, fossils, mollusc shells, exhibits from different countries, books about geology, a variety of posters. These exhibits help us to learn more about the depths of the Earth, its minerals, rocks and fossils.

We hope that the museum will become popular among students, town people and its guests.

This event was extensively described  in the local media. Two local  newspapers “Joneda“ and „Naujienos“ published  articles“ The Museum of  Rocks and Minerals Was Opened  in Jonava “Neris” Basic School”, another local newspaper ”Alio Jonava” noticed that “students from “Neris” basic school fell ill with stones”.

We are very pleased that the museum’s exhibition is constantly expanding by school community and people of Jonava town.

„Moments of Inspiration“

Ramunės Vosylienės and Irenos Miškinienės project

A sample of one part of the project - translation from great Lithuanian poets:

Poem by Vytautas Mačernis
from  „Winter Sonnets“

I would like to bare myself
And show my true colors.
But pages of my book are scattered:
Can't find its conclusion or beginning myself.

Who needs it... It is boring as every book,
Lives written into humans heart,
And what those unequal periods would explain,
Their melody, which constantly falls down.

But who I am? You would like to know…
-Probably some fusion of bizarre desires,-
Many who cast a glance on me would say.

Yes! I crave for – because I'm greedy for life -
To live, to live and love everyone more each time,
And maybe something more... But who I am to say…

Translated by Justina Stryžen, IVe
